The Density Of Wood
Jun 17, 2016

Density is mass per unit volume of an object, usually expressed as g/cm³ or kg/m³. Wood is porous material, its size is determined by the cell wall material and pore (cell cavities, intercellular, pits, etc), and thus density of wood density and wood density of points. Former wood volume (including porosity) quality for the latter cell wall material (not including the pore) mass per unit volume.

Wood: wood is an important indicator of the nature, based on its estimated actual weight of the wood, and infer the properties of wood and wood shrinkage, swelling, hardness, strength and other physical and mechanical properties of wood.

Wood density, basic density and stomatal density in two of the most commonly used.

1, basic density

Due to weight of absolutely dry wood basic density and raw materials (or impregnated wood) are relatively stable, determination of accurate results, it is suitable for use over the wood properties. In wood drying, anti-corrosion industry, also has utility.

2, air dry density

Air dry density, is air dried wood and air dry weight ratio of the volume of material, usually in the moisture content of wood density in the 8%~20% for air dry density. Wood Wood air dry density for Chinese property and the fundamental basis for production use.

Wood density, size, under the influence of a variety of factors, the main influencing factors are: wood moisture, cell wall thickness, tree-ring width, fiber ratio of high and low, extract the content of, the tree site and old site and silvicultural measures. China Academy of Forestry Research Institute of wood industry wood air dry density (moisture 15%), wood is divided into five levels (in:g/cm³):

Small: ≤ 0.350; small: 0.351-0.550;: 0.551-0.750:0.751-0.950; large: >0.950.
